Background
Stephanie (She/Hers) is a 2024 ORISE Fellow working on qualitatively understanding Tribal co-stewardship, co-management, and partnership efforts and processes within designated Wilderness areas. Stephanie is of mixed Chiricahua Apache, Xicana, and German descent. She has lived all over the U.S but currently lives in Missoula, Montana – which are the ancestral homelands of the Séliš and Ql̓ispé peoples. She has worked with and for federal, state, tribal, and nonprofit entities in the fields of botany, forestry, fisheries, wildlife, kincentric ecology, environmental education, and tribal relations. Stephanie is most passionate about facilitating a restoration of relationship between people and the land – including restoring respectful relationships with non-human relatives such as large-carnivores. As a scientist trained in Indigenous Research Methods & Methodologies, Stephanie is committed to a braided science approach that uplifts the presence and prioritization of Indigenous science, perspective, and worldview.
